Blackwell Revisited Vase

Blackwell The Arts and Crafts House, is a rare architecturalgem, designed by noted architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, and is a place that offers inspiration for Nicola from tiles in the fireplaces, carved stone and wood panelling, stained glass, mosaic floors, wrought iron and lead work, hessian wall hangings and the beautiful plaster work. Yet it was always the glass work that took her breathe away. Within each room, stained glass mullion windows are positioned either side of the fireplace with window seats built into the alcove where blue birds appear to be flying over the gardens themselves.

Best QualityDesigner: Nicola Slaney
Over two decades ago, Nicola's triptych plaque utterly transformed the stained-glass effect - black lead work and panes of colour, tinged with the slightest ash-grey - into clay. Nicola ushers back turquoise blue birds beak-to-beak, ruby tulips, and roundels created by leaves that mimic the famous iron work in the celebrated White Room. You can see this room in the buttermilk panels that shimmer like the late afternoon sun. Yet it the choreographed miniscule violet flowers, that showcase the very best of Moorcroft tube-lining as well as a designer who continues to astound.

"The glass windows at Blackwell House utterly took my breathe away. To transform what is, fundamentally, painting with light in to ceramic form has been a career journey that I have love more than anything else."- Nicola Slaney
